SELECTION OF LOCAL ANESTHETICS USED BY DENTAL SURGEONS IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF SOBRAL/CE

Objective: To observe the factors considered by dental surgeons from the public service in Sobral when choosing anesthetic solutions for dental procedures. Method: The research was carried out in the semester 2024.1, characterized as a field study with a qualitative and quantitative approach. A questionnaire was prepared with 20 objective questions and applied in person, after signing the Free and Informed Consent Form (TCLE). Results: Of the 70 professionals initially qualified from the Sobral public service to respond to the questionnaire, we obtained 44 valid questionnaires for analysis. Among the various data obtained in the research, we noticed that 38.6% of professionals completed a 3-year degree, it was clear that Mepivacaine without vasoconstrictor is found in 63.6% of units and that dental surgeons had greater difficulty in responding according to the literature, relate topics about hypertension, controlled diabetes, asthmatic patients, patients with hyperthyroidism and understand the indications for patients with liver disease. Conclusion: The research showed good knowledge of professionals about anesthesia, but highlights the need for improvements and refresher courses to ensure the appropriate use of anesthetics in different clinical situations. In this way, this research managed to have a parameter of deficits and successes, related to the choice, application, indications and contraindications of local anesthetics, by dentists. Therefore, the data collected can help public managers to promote the continuing education of dental surgeons, ensuring quality care.
